COVID-19 Pandemic: Changes in Drug Consumption and Implications for Treatment Strategies

Objective: This study aims to establish a roadmap for drug supply during potential future pandemic scenarios by examining the variations in consumption at Kayseri City Training and Research Hospital COVID-19 compared pre-COVID-19 period. Materials Methods: The involved an analysis of one-year stock data before after pandemic. start date was identified as April 2020 when first case admitted our hospital. Data on inputs outputs were obtained from Information Management System. calculated percentages considering number inpatients monthly basis. groups investigated included antiviral, antibiotic, antihypertensive, antidiabetic, antifungal, antithrombotic, antitussive, psychiatric drugs. Specifically, most commonly used antifungal agents liposomal amphotericin B, fluconazole, metronidazole, caspofungin, nystatin; antihypertensive amlodipine, perindopril, carvedilol, furosemide; antidiabetic encompassed insulin glargine, aspart, glulisine, metformin hydrochloride; drugs consisted quetiapine, escitalopram, sertraline; antiviral favipiravir, oseltamivir, remdesivir; antibiotics comprised ampicillin sodium, ceftriaxone, levofloxacin, moxifloxacin, clarithromycin. Additionally, enoxaparin sodium antithrombotic agent, levodropropizin antitussive Results: Comparing pre-COVID period, increase supplied per patient observed across all groups. However, usage rates furosemide, decreased certain months categories with highest antithrombotics, antivirals, antibiotics. Notably, increased factor 270 year Conclusion: highlights changes requirements periods, particularly antimicrobial drugs, demonstrated findings. It emphasizes importance proactive measures adjust meet demands clinics inpatient services critical periods.
